Congleton Carnival has been able to support 14 local groups and
charities with a share of 3,200GBP donated by the public in the
traditional bucket collections that accompany the carnival parade.
15 of the groups attended a cheque presentation on Wednesday 16 May, the
final public engagement of the out-going Mayor Councillor Charles Booth.
Many of the groups that benefited from the carnival cash took part in
the previous carnival with members of their group carrying buckets for
the crowds to add their donations. They are all Congleton based groups
or organisations that support local people.
Those receiving the cheques were: Congleton branch of the Royal National
Lifeboat Institute, Congleton Building Preservation Trust, Ruby's Fund,
Congleton 230 Air Training Cadets, Congleton High School, Congleton
Heritage and Antiques Festival, Congleton Youth Orchestra, Beartown
Amateur Boxing, Congleton Friends for Leisure, LOL Foundation, Bromley
Park Community Development Fund, Daneside Theatre Trust, Buglawton
Scouts and Guides and Friends of Congleton Park.
Chairman of the current Congleton Carnival team, Bob Edwards said:- The
bucket collection is an important part of the Carnival parade. Every
penny put into the collection is distributed to local groups and
organisations and is always kept separate from the Carnival running
costs. 3,200GBP was the funds collected in 2014 and 2016 and it was
great to be able to share it with so many worthwhile Congleton groups.
Applications are still open to be part of the Congleton 2018 Super
Heroes and Villains Carnival Procession and Fun Day. Forms can be
collected from the Tourist Information Centre or downloaded from our
download section or via our Facebookpage:-
The procession will go
through the town, starting from Bromley Road at 11am on Saturday 7th July
followed by a fun day with stalls, music, food and drink and activities in
Congleton Park from 12 noon until 8pm.
